First Week of Class (Jan 12-16)

1. What aspects of your week did you find most valuable?

I found it very valuable finally being in a school district. When I was doing my field experience I knew I would only be there for 30 hours so it didn't seem as much as a real experience. Now being at Crestwood, it feels nice knowing that this is the real deal.

I also found seeing alot of the the ins an outs beneficial. It was also cool that I am being treated as a real teacher and have real teacher responsibilities.

2. As you reflect on the past week, would you have modified or changed an aspect(s) if you had the chance to start the week over.

No. Everything went smooth. My co-op is really nice and made my first week completely stress free and we work well together. I am really happy with the layout of the first week of not having to teach a class; it gave me ample time to feel relaxed in the classroom and begin to meet the students. I am quite doubtful, but I hope the rest of my student teaching goes as well as the previous week.

  1. You're not just being treated as a real teacher, you are a real teacher! You've been teaching the students since you arrived. I'm sure the students have been watching and observing you too and learning from the way you handle yourself. You're charismatic and have a natural enthusiasm which will help you connect with the students. I've seen your infectious enthusiasm in grad classes and you'll have no problem engaging your students because as we all know, connecting content brings success.

  2. I agree with Maribeth! The students see you as the teacher because they know no other identity for you. As long as you keep giving what they expect from a teacher, the experience in this role will become richer and richer for both you and your students. Making a difference is truly the "heart and soul" of this profession.

As far as the second question, I think you could have posted about the placement administration not giving you permission to do the Follow a Student for a Day assignment as it was presented. Giving us your take on how this assignment can be modified to still fit the purpose of the assignment is a challenge that the other student teachers will not have to face.

  3. I posted my blog prior to finding out I wouldn't be able to follow a student around for a day
